Vision Hayes back in top form

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | M1GP, MiniGPX-NEWS, SMRRC | Monday 19 October 2009 9:45 pm

Vision Hayes, age 10, raced his NSR50 as a solo entry in both the M1-GP 4 hour endurance race held Oct 11 at the Grange Motor Circut and the SMRRC 2 hour endurance race held at the Stocton Motorplex Oct 18.

We arrived at Grange for the M1-GP event the morning of the race after driving all night, and Vision used the morning warm up sessions to familiarize himself with the fresh pavement that was laid since we were last there. He also used the mornings 50cc sprint race as a warmup, winning the race.

There were 15 team entries in the race, about half of which were in the Stock50 class. Vision was the only person to attempt a solo run. He was up against some stiff competition as some teams brought in ringers.

Every team had to do a mandatory ride through the pits every 40 minutes, and Vision was able to last the 40 minutes, come in, get a drink of water, a bite to eat, even taking two bathroom breaks during the race, and still managed to finish second in his class just one lap down on the winning team, whose three riders could rest and then come in fresh.

Four hours solo, 10 years old, second in class just one lap down. Pretty good.

The SMRRC race was the next weekend so we did the same routine, showing up the morning of the race, where we had Vision use the morning warmup session and one heat race to familiarize himself with the layout of the track, saving his energy for the endurance race.

The turnout was low, and there were only five team entries in the race, with Vision being the lone solo effort.

Vision was the only team to run a flawless race, coming in for one scheduled pit stop at the one hour mark. He kept a fast race pace until the end, completing 185 laps and winning the overall race by one lap.

Thank you to all of Visions sponsors who help him with his racing adventures.

Poison Dart Frog Racing Team wins 50cc Stock Class at M1GP 4 Hour Endurance Race

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | M1GP, MiniGPX-NEWS | Saturday 17 October 2009 9:37 pm

After finishing 2nd Place in the 50 Stock class of last year’s M1GP 8 Hour Endurance Race, the Poison Dart Frog Racing Team decided that the Vee Rubber soft 12″ racing slicks would be a winning combination on their Honda NSR50. They were right, as they won the 50 Stock class of the inaugural M1GP 4 Hour Endurance Race last weekend.

This year’s team consisted of returning members Jason Aguilar and Anthony Alonso, with new team member Sean Landess. 13 year old Jason Aguilar won Pocketbike Championships at SCminiGP in 2007 and 2008 riding Vee Rubber tires. He also finished 2nd in SCminiGP’s very competitive NSR Cup in 2008 on Vee Rubber Soft 12″ racing slicks. For 2009, he is undefeated in SCminiGP’s Thumpstar GP Spec Class riding on Vee Rubber Soft 12″ racing slicks.

11 year old Anthony Alonso won last year’s SCminiGP NSR Cup. For 2009, Anthony leads SMRRC Championships in NSR Cup, MiniGP, MiniGP Youth, and Formula GP. In addition, Anthony leads the points for the 2009 SMRRC Overall Championship.

Joining this fast pair of kids is 2008 SCminiGP 50 Heavy Champion Sean Landess. Flying in from Atlanta, where he placed 4th in the WERA Grand National Finals E Superstock Expert class at Road Atlanta, Sean only had 2 practice sessions to get used to the suspension setup on Jason’s NSR50. It is a real challenge for an adult to adapt to a suspension that is set up for a 75 lb rider. Sean did a great job and turned in some excellent lap times.

Although starting dead last in the Le Mans style start when the kill switch was accidently tripped, Anthony got to work moving from 15th place to 2nd in class and 3rd place overall by the time his first stint was over. The riders were limited to 40 minute sessions, and the Team stayed solid, taking the lead and building up a 2 lap advantage in their class.

Competition was fierce with some of the more powerful classes. Early on, Anthony was stuck behind a much more powerful Honda CR80 and really had to work the turns to get by and build up enough of a gap to hold off the charge of the more powerful bike down the straightaway. Jason was able to battle and pass AMA Daytona winner Tyler Odom, who was on a Honda NSF100.

Track conditions were very challenging. The track had recently been resurfaced and was very slippery. Tire grip was going to be a factor. The Vee Rubber Racing Slicks held up beautifully, and could have easily completed an 8 Hour Endurance Race and then some.

Tayomotors sponsored the Vee Rubber soft 12″ racing slicks for Poison Dart Frog Racing. “I’d like to thank Jason Aguilar for 3 years of support riding on Vee Rubber tires, and multiple championships. After outstanding performances highlighted by this recent 4 Hour Endurance Race win, the tires are proven winners. We know we have the best pocketbike tires, and with the help of racers like Poison Dart Frog Racing, we can develop the best 12″ racing tires”, explained Paul Grasham of Tayomotors.

Vee Rubber Racing Tires are available from Tayomotors at ~http://www.tayomotors.com~ or (619) 246-6424.

Slednecks had the opportunity to catch up with team rider Josh Galster after he completed a 100-mile bicycle ride and just before the launch of Minor Details; a documentary film staring himself, Misti Hurst, Danny Eslick, and many other stars from the AMA Superbike world.á Here’s what he had to say:

“Late last month, I participated in a century ride, a 100-mile bicycle ride, outside of Columbus , OH in Westerville for the 24th Annual Dry Run bicycle tour. It was a benefit ride that was put on by Westerville BicycleáClub that my brother was going to ride in. I happened to be in the area when the tour was going to happen so I signed up and said, “Why not, sounds like fun, I’ve never done a 100-mile bicycle ride, let’s do it.” Well it was a lot more work than I had prepared for, but I was determined to finish.á I had a lot of fun in the process and it went really well. The terrain consisted of many rolling hills with a couple steep climbs, flat roads through corn fields, and just a good overall scenic view.

“It was good training since I’m in the off-season right now, I need to stay in shape and be ready for next season. I plan on riding heaps this winter whether it is on a bicycle, dirt bike, race bike, sled, snowboard, surf board, whatever that I can do to ‘cross-train,’áso I’ll see you on the road, dirt, or snow.

“Right after the century ride Iádrove to Colorado for the movie release party of Minor Details. We had the release party at Hooters in Colorado along with the Grandprix Motorsports Bike Night. It was a greatáturnout with roughly 250-300 motorcycles there, door prizes, and free Slednecks give-a-ways. The movie was a huge hit with the crowd.”

The movie, Minor Details, gives you an idea of what it is like to race in the AMA series and the difficulty of competing at the most elite level in the US . It is a documentary of my season last year, which includes Misti Hurst, Danny Eslick, and Ben Thompson. Check it out, it starts shipping tomorrow soágoátoá ~http://www.Slednecks.com~ and pick up your copy today.á
