Ex-pocketbiker Wilkey sets track record at Summit Point

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | MiniGPX-NEWS, United States | Wednesday 30 August 2006 2:08 pm

CCS/WERA Amateur Rider #119 ROBERT WILKEY is the new track lap record holder at Summit Point Shenandoah in West Virginia as of 8/27/2006!

Wilkey bested the record 5 times, previously set at 1′30.667″ by Expert rider Ryan Patterson, during a busy afternoon of racing finally ending the day at 1′29.599″. Wilkey set his fastest lap time in the 750 Superbike class where he started near the back of the second wave and caught front-runner Bryan Bemisderfer in less than 4 laps passing him in the chicane on the front straight to take the overall lead for the final two laps.

CCS Race announcer Griff Allen told the crowd that not since the mid-80’s have they seen an Amateur rider tackle the Experts like Wilkey has been the last few race weekends.

Wilkey went 9 for 10 on the weekend far outdistancing the Amateur field in all but the final race where mechanical problems forced him back to a 2nd Place finish. All-in-all another outstanding weekend for the very talented young rider.

Wilkey will be racing with WERA at Beaverun next weekend.

ASV levers…now crash tested

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | MiniGP, MiniGPX-NEWS, Product Review | Tuesday 29 August 2006 5:48 pm

Last week we posted a review (linked below) of the ASV unbreakable levers. Through no planning of our own, they were tested three times this past weekend. The newly painted MiniGPX NSR, and the fresh levers, were put to the test once in the dirt at 20 MPH, and twice against the pre-grid asphalt in tip-overs.

The same type of accident that caused the non-folding levers to snap just a few weeks earlier, did nothing to the ASV levers except make them fold. In all three incidents only the bodywork was worse for wear.

USMGP cancels Mid-Ohio event

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | MiniGPX-NEWS, Opinion, USMGP | Monday 28 August 2006 1:28 am

This morning on CycleForums USMGP East Coast Operations Manager Chuck Shorie posted this, “Due to the lack of support the Mid-Ohio event is cancelled. Hope to see all of you in Las Vegas.”

With the lack of advanced notice the event was going to be a tough sell for those outside the area, but combine that with a TSMMR schedule conflict, and the event dies quitely.

The opportunity to ride the same weekend as the AMA Superbikes hasn’t been seen since last year when SCminiGP ran their race at California Speedway the same weekend as the AMA. Kawasaki’s Roger Lee Hayden was kind enough to sign some helmets, stick around for a bit and present the awards.

As the sport grows it will be nice to see the pocketbike and MiniGP bikes be part of the show, until then…thanks for trying.

It’s Official: SCminiGP gets green light from AMA

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | MiniGPX-NEWS, SCMiniGP, United States | Friday 25 August 2006 8:22 pm

It’s official as of August 24th, 2006, SCminiGP has received an official promoter’s charter from the American Motorcycle Association (AMA). This means that Southern California Mini Gran Prix has the ability to sanction any of their race events in the 2006 year. This also means that SCminiGP will be able to sanction any of their events for the 2007 year.

“This is big for our organization and any riders who are a part the minimoto community. It gives us a chance to give our youth something bigger than just MiniGP racing, a chance to be an AMA Champion,” said Josiah Taulbee, President of the organization.

With the 2006 championship season 3/4 of the way complete, SCminiGP will continue to run their points series under their current status until the end of the year where the staff will review official AMA sanctioning for 2007. However, as this has brought a new light into the organization, SCminiGP will hold one AMA sanctioned event before the end of the season. It will be a two day championship event with many guest invited where some riders will go home AMA champions and one per class will go home with a #1 AMA plate.

For more information regarding the AMA Sanctioning or the AMA event please contact Josiah Taulbee at ~info@scminigp.com~ or +1-626-673-0145.

Two new staff members for SCminiGP

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | MiniGPX-NEWS, SCMiniGP, United States | Friday 25 August 2006 8:12 pm

SCminiGP would like to announce the addition of two new members of the staff team. Over the last three years these two members have proved to be dedicated to helping SCminiGP provide a world class racing environment. In the recent year, they volunteered to provide general support to official staff before and after all events.

It is our honor to announce the promotions of Daryl Watts and Danny Selves to official staff members of the SCminiGP program.

Daryl Watts will come on full time for the 2007 season as Director of Operations. Daryl’s responsibilities will revolve around the execution of the event. He will work directly with the Race Director to help coordinate and manage the days schedule and all hired staff. His role will focus on improving safety and helping create a communication channel between staff and members. Daryl’s influence will help streamline the process of executing the race event.

Danny Selves will come on full time for the 2007 season as Director of Customer Relations and Policies. Danny’s responsibilities will revolve around member satisfaction. He will become the point of contact for all members and potential customers dealing with general feedback, rider concerns, rider disputes, and rider complaints. His role will focus on creating a system of communication separating contact of riders with hired staff and providing a place for riders to provide constructive feedback. The information he’s receives will help influence the policies put in place helping to keep the SCminiGP program efficient.

SCminiGP’s President Josiah Taulbee says, “The positions have been created as a support system for each other. With Danny providing the members the attention they need and Daryl providing the hire staff the attention they need, we can help improve our race environment faster with less conflict. Both these gentlemen have been a great help so far and we are proud to have them in their new roles and part of the SCminiGP team.”

With the support of Flag Pro’s – Track Flaggers, Rick Brown – Race Director, Vivian Lanza – General Manager, Daryl Watts – Operations Director, Danny Selves – Customer Relations & Policies Director, Joseph Guarneri – Volunteer Staff, and Josiah Taulbee – President & Marketing Director, the SCminiGP’s program has a total of ten official staff members the day of the event.

Rooster Racing offers the first Blata 2.6

Posted by MiniGPX Archives | MiniGPX-NEWS, Pocketbike, United States | Friday 25 August 2006 8:08 pm

Rooster Racing will be the first dealer to offer the all new Blata 2.6. Blata USA put in their first order for Rooster Racing just over two weeks ago and the bikes are scheduled to arrive in the US the first part of September. Rooster Racing has managed to sell the last of Blata USA’s 2.5 stock since the beginning of the 2006 season. Many of the sales have been to youth riders participating in the SCminiGP Race Series and supported by the SCminiGP Youth Intro to riding program.

Paul Grasham who is also known as Old Rooster to the SCminiGP crew says, “The 2.5 has been a blessing to the program in So Cal. We’ve sold bikes, we’ve sold parts, and we are growing with customers/members. Our support from Ras Brodsky – Blata USA and the SCminiGP Blata Cup have helped us continually put bikes under kids from the ages of 5-10 years old. With three more events and two more youth courses we had no choice but to put in an order for new models.”

If you want to catch a glimpse of the new Blata 2.6 all you have to do is make one of the SCminiGP races before the end of the season. The model will make its debut at race #7 of the SCminiGP championship held at Buttonwillow Raceway September 16th in Bakersfield, Ca.

Ras Brodsky from Blata USA/Omicron Motors will be there to introduce the new model to the members who have supported the SCminiGP program in 2006. This event has been schedule to be an invitational to any riders who are near California as SCminiGP will beta test new classes for the 2007 season.

If you’d like to order a bike please contact Rooster Racing, the official track support for SCminiGP’s Youth Program. Website: ~http://www.roosterracing.net~
